AJC political contributors Carolyn J. Bourdeaux, Geoff Duncan and Meagan Myers Hanson will also be joining the conversation along with Dekalb County CEO Michael Thurmond.

Politically Georgia Cast

Greg Bluestein is a political reporter and author who covers the governor’s office and Georgia politics for The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. He writes for the front-page of the AJC, contributes to the Political Insider blog and morning Jolt newsletter, co-hosts the Politically Georgia podcast and is a frequent guest on local and national TV and radio programs. He’s an MSNBC and NBC News contributor and the author of “Flipped,” a book on Georgia’s epic 2020 election. He’s a proud graduate of the University of Georgia with degrees in journalism and political science, and Axios named him the “most dedicated” Bulldog fan at the 2023 national championship game. He lives with his wife and two daughters in Dunwoody.

Carolyn J. Bourdeaux

AJC Political Contributor

Dr. Carolyn Bourdeaux has built a career at the intersection of policy, politics, and governance. She has served as a Democratic Member of Congress from Georgia from 2021-2022 after winning one of the most competitive races in the country. During her time in Congress, she focused on health care, small business and infrastructure and worked extensively with the bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus to help pass the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act one of the most significant investments in infrastructure in US history.

Leroy Chapman Jr.

Editor in Chief, The AJC

Leroy Chapman Jr. is The Atlanta Journal-Constitution's Editor-in-Chief. Since joining the AJC in 2011, Chapman has shepherded some of the publication’s most high-profile stories, including the efforts to undermine Georgia’s 2020 election results, the court cases of teachers and administrators charged in the Atlanta Public Schools cheating scandal, and the investigation into Atlanta’s affordable housing crisis during a time of economic uncertainty. Previously, he was managing editor where he was in charge of reporting teams that cover state, local and federal government; politics; education; public safety; local, state and federal courts; transportation; immigration and breaking news. Chapman is a U.S. Navy veteran and has been a journalist for 28 years. 

Geoff Duncan

AJC Political Contributor

 Duncan entered public service in 2012 after winning an upstart campaign to the Georgia House of Representatives in 2012. In the House, he served on the Banking, Science & Technology and Ways & Means Committee. Duncan spearheaded the Rural Hospital Tax Credit that created tax credits for donors to rural hospitals, a win-win program that has yielded tens of millions in additional funding to save rural hospitals from closure. During the 2020 legislative session, Duncan built a historic bipartisan coalition to pass Georgia’s Hate Crimes Law in the aftermath of the murder of Ahmaud Arbery. In 2021, he authored the LESS Crime Act to empower private citizens to support law enforcement and led successful efforts to defeat the Buckhead secession movement, with the Atlanta Journal Constitution declaring, “Powerful GOP leader delivers blow to Buckhead cityhood.”

Dr. John Henry Eaves

Dr. John Eaves is the Founder and National Director of the Black and Jewish Leaders of Tomorrow. He got his first experience in politics while volunteering with his Uncle Reginald Eaves’ campaign for Mayor of Atlanta. Following his graduation from Morehouse, John served as National Director of the NCAA Volunteer for Youth Program and then the Southeast Regional Director of the Peace Corps. In 2006, he achieved his dream of public service by getting elected as Chairman of Fulton County--Georgia’s most populous county. During his 11-year tenure, Dr. Eaves established a reputation as a staunch advocate on Healthcare, Transportation, Voting, Homelessness, and Criminal Justice Reform.

Meagan Myers Hanson

AJC Political Contributor

Hanson represented the Brookhaven area as a Republican in the Georgia House of Representatives from 2017 to 2019. She currently serves as the executive director of Georgians for Lawsuit Reform. Hanson resists being put in a political box. In her first column for the AJC, she writes that former President Donald Trump erred when he took shots at not only Gov. Brian Kemp but the first lady. She adds to the roster of other new contributors including former Lt. Governor Geoff Duncan, former Fulton County Commissioner John Eaves, Ph.D., former U.S. Rep. Carolyn Bourdeaux, PhD, beloved broadcast legend Monica Pearson, James Beard award-winning cookbook author and Southern chef Virginia Willis, Atlanta creative culture influencer Bem Joiner and Jewel Wicker, cultural writer, and journalist.

Lucy McBath

US Congresswoman

In Congress, McBath serves as the Secretary of the Congressional Black Caucus and the top Democrat on the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime. She is an active member of her faith community, a proud graduate of a Historically Black College and University, and a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. She resides in Metro-Atlanta with her husband Curtis and their dog, Harley, where they enjoy neighborhood walks and riding motorcycles.

Tia Mitchell

Politically Georgia Cast

Tia Mitchell is the AJC’s Washington correspondent. In this role, she writes about Georgia’s congressional delegation, campaigns, elections, and the impact that decisions made in D.C. have on residents of the Peach State. Before that, she served as the AJC’s DeKalb County reporter. Before joining the paper in 2017, Tia spent her entire career in Florida covering local and state government for publications like the Tampa Bay Times and The Florida Times-Union. Tia is a graduate of Florida A&M University and is originally from Louisville, Ky. She is chair of the Political Task Force for the National Association of Black Journalists.

Andrew Morse

President and Publisher, The AJC

Andrew Morse is the president and publisher of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the flagship newspaper of Atlanta-based Cox Enterprises. Before joining the AJC, Morse was executive vice president and chief digital officer for CNN Worldwide. Prior to his nearly nine-year-run at CNN, Morse was the head of Bloomberg’s U.S. television division. Morse started his career at ABC News in 1996 and for 15 years climbed the ranks from production coordinator to executive producer for innovation for ABC News Digital. His ABC tenure included stints as an executive producer for the weekend editions of “Good Morning America” and “World News” and eight years overseas as a producer and editor in London and as Asia bureau chief.

Patricia Murphy

Politically Georgia Cast

Patricia Murphy joined the AJC’s politics team in 2020 from CQ-Roll Call, where she was a nationally syndicated political columnist. Previously, she was the Capitol Hill Bureau Chief for Politics Daily, a Newsweek/ Daily Beast columnist, and a contributor to Garden & Gun and the Washington Post. Before working in journalism, Patricia was a staffer for three U.S. senators. An Atlanta native, Patricia graduated from Westminster Schools and Vanderbilt University and holds a master’s degree in journalism from Columbia University. An Atlanta native, Patricia is married and a mother of twins. She also is a twin. And she is second generation AJC.

Bill Nigut

Politically Georgia Cast, the AJC

Bill Nigut has been in local broadcasting for decades, a familiar face and voice to Georgians for his political coverage. For 20 years, he served as the national and state political reporter for WSB-TV, covering five presidential campaigns, the White House and Capitol Hill, and Georgia politics. In 2004, Nigut left WSB to become the CEO of Metro Atlanta Arts and Culture Coalition before taking the Southeast Regional Director of the Anti-Defamation League role in 2007. For the past nine years, Nigut has hosted GPB’s “Political Rewind,” a program he created that featured guests discussing state and national political stories. He also hosted a second GPB show, “Two Way Street,” a long-form conversation program with artists, authors, chefs and scientists. In 2021 he was inducted into the Georgia Association of Broadcaster’s Hall of Fame.

Brad Raffensperger

Georgia Secretary of State

Brad Raffensperger is Georgia’s 29th Secretary of State, first elected in 2018 and overwhelmingly re-elected in 2022. Secretary Raffensperger is a lifelong conservative Republican. He moved to Georgia 40 years ago to raise a family and start a small business. As a licensed Professional Engineer and Structural Engineer licensed in 40 states, and licensed General Contractor in Georgia and other states, Raffensperger successfully founded Tendon Systems, a provider of high-strength steel for construction projects.
